This wasn’t like the last straw or anything but I’m pretty sure Sony was starting to see the writing on the wall when it comes to doing stuff like this. As Microsoft buys more studios and acquires bigger IP, Gamepass and their back-catalogue-friendly attitude is starting to give them a real edge.

Sony isn’t so far ahead that they can just throw away goodwill. There’s no way keeping up these stores was hurting them that much.

I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call this a New Coke conspiracy.

Management can’t fuck with us much, breaks are mandatory, ect. Without the union we’d be...in a worse place still. Still hurts though that this contract got passed over our heads with such major concessions.

Yeah, let me tell you I support unions but a few years ago Teamsters leadership passed our negotiated contract despite overwhelming votes of “no” on the terms the company presented us with. Leadership set the contract anyway citing a rule that not enough people voted (only 40% of members did) so they could default to passing it on their own judgement.

Most workers are temporary part-timers so of course they never vote. Humanity is just crooked no matter what mitigating methods we try to circumvent it. Their only defense was “we got more out of the good than bad of the contract” even though we all disagreed ultimately...why is there any bad at all?

I just don’t get it, why do workers have to take any concessions at all just so a company (a $64 billion profit company) can squeeze a little more blood from the stone?

I also enjoyed the Mako quite a bit and spent many hours exploring the planets.

It’s not a popular opinion but we’re out there man. I still think ME2 is a masterpiece but I was really upset by the many changes. Instead of improving the Mako, planetary exploration, and the inventory system they just gave up and removed them (and added the much worse probe system). I never gave ME3 a chance so I’m interested to check it out finally.

My FIL still has the Netflix mail-in service and I always kind of jab him about it. I suppose even with 100,000 titles I just can't appreciate the hassle of waiting for discs in the mail.

That might just be the opinion of someone who's subbed to almost every relevant streaming service, has a sizable hard copy collection, and a Plex server. If I really can't find a title available for streaming, a decent purchase price on Amazon, or physical store availability, then I just sail the seven seas without much care.

I suppose this is an idea that works best with Tildes at the state it is now: rather small. Ideally I wouldn't want Tildes to ever get Reddit-size. Only slightly bigger than it is now, maybe two-fold.

Surely you can appreciate not looking at it through pure nostalgia. There's a lot of negatives to that as well.

I miss the days where every new game came out on a disc and that was all you needed; no system updates, no day one patches, just a nice and straightforward gaming experience. And as long as you took care of that disc, you could play that game.

I'm not talking about back then, I'm talking now. Sony has had a persistent attitude of "Why play old game when you could play new game?" and that's why I don't buy the platform now when their main competition is saying "Why not play all the game?". Who knows how long Microsoft is going to keep that up, but I'm investing in that for as long as they do it over a platform that just wants you to shell out for the latest remake or whatever.

Regardless the loss of digital-only content is a tragedy and frankly it pisses me off.
