Khromier Aww! That's really cute. I love how CSH covers long-distance relationships, the music really resonates with me. If you haven't seen their live performance of Bodys on Jimmy Fallon too, you've been missing out, it's hilarious.
Four stand out in particular, all of which are huge recommendations:
Mitski - Bury Me at Makeout Creek
Probably my favorite from her discography. Tons of teenage angst, romance and odes to interpersonal connections, gorgeous poetic lyrics overlaid by noisy guitars and catchy melodies. Songs like First Love/Late Spring and Carry Me Out are ballads that I love with all my heart.
American Holly - Four Ways to Say Goodbye Forever
This is a short EP that's only about 15 minutes long, but it's incredibly sweet. Four songs about long-distance relationships, seeking comfort in the warmth of someone else, and generally just love. Another musician and a friend of mine that goes by The Boneless Boy also plans on doing a full cover of the EP soon which I'm excited for.
The Whiting Brothers - D'Urberville
This is one of the most obscure but appreciable albums I've listened to. It was made by a now-disbanded group called the Whiting Brothers (Which later evolved into American Holly!). This was their debut and final album, but it's a lovely one. A concept album that has musical influences from so many different bands, and inspired lyrics with catchy melodies that stick in your head and have you humming them for days.
AJJ - People Who Can Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World
A folk punk classic, and one I don't have a Bandcamp link for but it's popular enough that it doesn't matter. Frantic acoustic guitars overlay musings about a little bit of everything. Exploring concepts such as existential dread, self hatred, madness, and the perspective of a psychopath earlier on, before mellowing and maturing. The last three tracks paint contrasting pictures of nihilism and unconditional love with hope for your fellow man. Personal Space Invader closes with one of my favorite verses of all-time:
"Oh, and welcome to this world
Have as much fun as you would like
While helping others have as much fun as you're having
And be kind to those you love
And be kind to those you don't
But for God's sake you gotta be kind!
And respectful because we're all one soul
Be the best fucking human that you can be!"
