I kind of love this. This article about generative artwork was recently posted on Hacker News and it was my introduction to the Georg Nees piece being reproduced here. I wonder if the Redis dev was inspired by that or if it's just a bit of random synchronicity. I for one welcome the return of whimsical easter eggs in popular software (as long as they have no measurable impact on the software's performance).
BTW as someone familiar with Redis but not antirez, does the latter refer to a single person or the collective Redis dev organization? The blog post doesn't really make it clear to me if the author speaks for the group or a member of it.
