The blue piece was the result of rendering a fractal in a fractal generating program, with colors altered to increase saturation (the original was quite pale and boring).

The red one used another fractal as its base. The fractal in question wasn't nearly as complex as the blue one. Instead, it was a very barebones, wire-like fractal. The image itself was the result of nothing more than a smudge tool being used very, very liberally to spread the color from the edges into the colorless regions.

Neither had any particularly complex or fancy skills or techniques used at all. They were just happy little flukes made by someone who ordinarily can only draw stick figures and basic shapes :)

Neat! I used to play with Fractint many eons ago, what does one use to generate a fractal these days?

I never got as good as the crazy stuff you sometimes see (on DA or Electric Sheep mostly) but I had a lot of fun with it.

There's other popular tools out there too, Mandulbulb3D, Chaotica, and JWildfire are the ones I seem to see referenced most frequently, and plenty of others. I still like to open up Xaos just for fun every now and then.

If I decide to get back into it sometime, I'll have to be sure to check these out :)
