Not bad, dude! You matched the sound with the editing really well, and the that time-lapse at 3:44 was expertly framed. Also, I loved that blur effect in the intro. How'd you do that? I don't...

I don't think there was much story to tell: you get to the campsite, you go to the lake, have fun with the kids back at the campsite, etc. So most of it relied on the visuals, and you didn't do a bad job on that. There are a couple times (like when you're walking with everybody between 0:59 and 1:05) that I felt you could have run ahead and just filmed people walking past instead, but there are many more shots that make up for it. Damn near every shot you have a fallen tree is beautiful - especially at the beginning when you planted the camera on top of one. Also, you're editing is on absolute point!

There were a couple times where the camera was shaky (like when you're playing with the kiddos at around 3:05) and you had some visual noise in those nighttime shots (great job with the time-lapses there too, though!), but overall I liked it. Nice job!

Also, I am so jealous that you got to go camping. It's something I've wanted to do for a little while but I don't know anyone else into it and I'm not about to wander off into the woods with strangers.

Almost all of the shots were handheld, except for a couple tripod shots at the lake and for the astro timelapse. Luckily, software stabilization did a pretty decent job of minimizing it. I left the playing clips shaky because there was a bit too much background wobble from the stabilization.

I actually bought a gimbal for the trip, but it didn't end up arriving until the day I got back. Go figure.

The title was done by using a planar tracker on the walking stick and anchoring the text to it. Then I found the frames at the start and finish of the focus rack and I timed a gaussian blur to coincide, as well as a fade. Pretty happy with it, although it might have been better to use a more stable clip for the title card because there's a little bit of jitter that the text really accentuates.

For the timelapse, I ended up using 30s/f8/3200iso with 1 frame per minute for most of it. It was a trade-off between high iso and lower shutter speed. Much longer and I would have started getting streaks from the Earth's rotation. But I'm actually pretty tempted to try it out next time I get a chance just because the noise levels were such a bummer.

You have a damn good eye. Do you work on much video yourself?

You may want to experiment with shooting lower iso shots in general. It can be tough balancing it with shutter speed in a time-lapse, but I also noticed some noise in your shots of people sitting around a campfire too. It may be good to try shooting with a lower iso and editing the brightness/contrast of those shots afterward. Playing with that stuff can be like falling down a rabbit hole, but in my experience, it works out a lot better.

Yea, it's definitely a bit of a rabbit hole. Nicer cameras can definitely handle the noise at higher ISOs better, but nicer is a whole lot more expensive. It's always a tricky balance. My super wide angle lens is not particular fast, and my fastest lens is a pretty tight angle (with no stabilization). Those campfire shots I think you're talking about were very low light. I've been meaning to check out some denoising plugins because sometimes noise is just unavoidable. Would you happen to have any recommendations for that?

I haven't been around in a while, but I wanted to share this video of a recent camping trip I took with a group of friends. As always, any kind of feedback is greatly appreciated!

Just as a family memory video it's great, like @AFineAccount mentioned there really was no "story" (probably mostly because of no narration of any kind) to the video so it makes it less engaging to those who didn't participate.

Framing and panoramic shots were on point, shakiness definitely made some scenes hard to watch.

That intro text though was gorgeous, I think if you tracked the shot behind the tree and exposed it as though it was coming into view it would look even better.

Great job overall, really makes me wish I took more time to record and edit trips I've taken.

Ooo I like that idea of it coming into focus. Thanks!
