I was pretty in favour of Correa’s plan to compensate Ecuadoreans for not extracting oil. My only concern was whether they would actually hold up their side of the deal given their political climate.
This sounds like a stretch though. Ecuadoreans stand to give up a huge amount of money with not great prospects in the rest of their economy — while I’d be very happy if this passed, I don’t know that I’d blame them for not passing it.
