Growing up, I remember the car windscreen having loads of bugs on them. And my dad's motorcycle helmet being covered in them constantly.
Now that I drive, I barely ever it a bug, and it's eerie.

I remember when I was a kid, my family drove out to a fair and saw a decorative license plate for sale that looked exactly like the family dog. So dad bought it, had it stamped with our dog's name, and we drove home with it on the car. After a single drive, dad decided to take the plate off the car because it was so full of bugs that you couldn't see the dog.

It kind of horrified me when I realized that, sometime between then and when I got my first car, the bug population had become so decimated that I don't know that I've ever had a dead bug on my car.

Fireflies used to make summer nights feel magical. Now it's a wonder to see any of them at all.
