Even so, this is a silly move by Coles. Lots of people across Australia already take their own bags to supermarkets. Single-use plastic bags have been banned in two states for years without problems.

Honestly, why would anyone not buy reusable bags for grocery store trips? They're way stronger than plastic and paper, and hold a lot more. Plus, they last forever - I'm using my mom's old Harris Teeter bags, most of which are over a decade old, and only 1 has been replaced (the canvas didn't break, it was the plastic sheet in the bottom).

What a disappointment this is... They just needed to hold out and things would have cooled down. Plus side is now they are handing out extra strong bin liners.
