this extensive piece put out by PBS is almost a year old, but it's still some of the best reporting in recent memory on the perilous present and future facing low-lying island nations in the pacific like the marshall islands. it's quite conceivable--perhaps likely, even, that the children in this piece will live to see their nation become uninhabitable because of sea level rise, which is crazy to think about. in some respects, it's already becoming uninhabitable with the increased frequency of things like flooding combined with the relatively poor nature of the marshall islands (their GDP per capita is in the low thousands) that makes getting out sooner rather than later if possible the only reasonable option for many people.
