I swear the most depressing thing to me, here, is how is this still news to people? For my entire adult life, 40-ish years, I've been reading news article after magazine article after book, TV shows, documentaries, etc, etc ... literally hundreds, if not thousands, of scientific reports, talking about, over and over, how we are wiping out species and genera and destroying entire ecosystems and so on, ad nauseam ... and still, people are like -- hell, the scientists being quoted in the article are like -- "well, we knew some stuff was dying, but we had no idea it was this bad".

I'm not being hyperbolic here. In the past 40 years, I have seen/heard variations of that same quote, it's gotta be close to 1000 times, if not more. And that's just as far back as I can remember. It probably goes back another 20, 40, 80? years before I started paying attention.

Well that was a depressing read.

I'm currently reading The Water Will Come which is pretty much a book about how fucked we are, and how the people in charge don't really care because they'll be dead by then (it's almost hyperbolic how villainous/ignorant/greedy some of the figureheads are). This article paired with it nicely in that it's just more insight as to the effects of climate change and how we can barley keep track of how fast it's moving ahead.

On a semi-related note, I hope all dog owners here keep their dogs on leashes when in parks that call for it. We've a lot of parks in my area that call for dogs to be on leashes, and while a lot of people think that those laws are just in place to keep dogs from attacking humans or pooping off-trail (and subsequently let their dog off-leash thinking their dog is better than that), one of the other reasons is that dogs disturb ground-nesting birds; and if you are in a park that has a lot of English Ivy suffocating the trees, the birds that would normally nest up top resort to nesting on the ground, alongside all the other fragile-fellas. Please keep your dogs on a leash for the birds!
