I think the article brought up a good point. Summaries of tax writeoffs broken up by industry could help tremendously to figure out what’s driving this phenomenon. If Amazon, Walmart, and Target were lumped into one anonymized summary report on tax code loopholes they exploited, the public could immediately see where the bleeding is happening while protecting the brands involved, as they can plausibly deny they use specific loopholes.
