I feel like R* didn't have much trust on this remaster to begin with, otherwise why would they take down their own games? It's not like the money would go elsewhere.
For the same reason the Special Edition versions of Star Wars are the only commercially available ones: Rockstar has always considered themselves artists, not game devs.

They hired the studio behind the mobile ports and those incompetent "remasters" for the 360/PS3. I don't know what Rockstar expected to happen.
