Several former vegans [...] say that doctors had told them to eat animal products, but repeatedly ignored this advice until their health problems drove them to desperation.
Yikes. As a paranoid vegetarian I am more than interested in any feedback whatsoever my doctors have to say about my diet, if they told me to change my diet, I would absolutely look into whatever feedback they had.
That said, I've never been told by doctors to resume eating animal products and get my bloodwork done annually, with the only deficiency being Vitamin D, which I try my darnedest to keep up. I'm so curious to know what specific symptoms and issues these people had (the article's a little vague: anemic, "brain rebooting," missing period) that convinced them to switch.
Vitamin D deficiency has almost nothing to do with being vegan though... They bloody fortify milk with it. It's not like the cows normally make it for you. For whatever reason, people with some...

For whatever reason, people with some otherwise wacky ideas (Let's just eat all fruit! Let's not vaccinate our kids!) decide to be vegan. They make being vegan harder for the rest of us. It has led to at least one video blogger to have a backlash to that sort of BS: Unnatural Vegan.
The fact of the matter is, the entire field of Nutrition hasn't really improved with the pace of science. So much research is funded by the egg board or the diary council or Coca-Cola, that it's really bloody difficult to determine what's true or false. Like, remember when the news reported that red wine was good for you? It turns out, alcohol at any level is unsafe, but the anti-oxidants from the grapes are good...so maybe just eat grapes?
I am not sure where this tirade is going, so let's just leave it at that. All I really have to say is, most people have no idea what to eat, and their physician likely has so few hours of nutrition training that they likely can't help them either.
There are some people with immune disorders that benefit from the Carnivore Diet, although I'd consider that a pretty extreme diet for the average person and the lack of long term data make it...
There are some people with immune disorders that benefit from the Carnivore Diet, although I'd consider that a pretty extreme diet for the average person and the lack of long term data make it risky for those who don't need to do it. You'd also be opening yourself up to all sorts of vitamin deficiencies unless you're eating organ meats and such as well.
