Just wanted to start another general cycling discussion thread, this time about longer rides.

I did my first metric century (100km) ride last Saturday, as part of an organized event here in the Bay Area. The ride took us through Marin county, which is the region just north of the Golden Gate bridge for those unfamiliar, and it was absolutely beautiful the whole way. The ride itself was wonderfully organized and supported: there were rest stops / feed stations every 20 miles or so, stocked with really great food, water, and sport drink mixes. There were also medics riding the course and support vehicles to help with mechanical issues, or to give you a lift back to the start if you had to tap out.

It was my first time doing a longer ride like this. I only signed up for it about 6 weeks ago and I am so glad that I did. Training for this really forced me to learn about cycling longer distances, from planning routes, to essential items to bring with, to proper nutrition, and beyond. I went from doing 10-20 mile rides a couple of times a week to doing this 62ish mile ride (with 4000ft of elevation) in 6 weeks, which I am super happy about!

Now that I can ride these distances, it's totally changed the options that feel open to me and I've been having a blast exploring my area. I'm no longer intimidated by routes with decent climbs or long distances, which has really opened up a lot.

Anyway, I absolutely loved it, and if anyone has been thinking about doing something similar take this as your sign to 100% do it!

Title says most of it. Something has clicked for me in the past new months and I've unlocked a level of enjoyment cycling I never had before. I've always ridden by bike since I was young, but only recently have I started doing it for health and fitness, and pure enjoyment. I'm addicted to seeing just how far (and how high) I'm able to go! What really did it for me was my first ride with decent elevation. I've always driven past cyclists chugging their way up in the hills and never understood how they did it, and never thought I'd be able to. Well, all it took was trying it one day to realize that while difficult, it was totally attainable, and since then I've been hooked. This has prompted me to also start following pro cycling, which I've done on and off before, but this year I'm very much looking forward to the Tour de France.

Anyone else into this as a hobby (either doing or watching)? Anyone training for big upcoming rides, and if so what? I mostly just want to chat about what people's weekly rides look like!

    3. Tell me about your experience with martial arts

This is a good time to repeat the prompt made by @0d_billie back in 2020, and I will also reuse the questions in their post. So are any tilderen martial artists? If so, tell me about it! What do...

So are any tilderen martial artists? If so, tell me about it!

      • What do you practice?
      • How long have you done it?
      • How does it benefit you?
      • Do you attend classes or practice solo?
      • Would you recommend your martial art to a beginner?

I'm curious to know what martial ars everyone likes the most, and why!
