    Most truths are like that, easy to hear or recite, hard to live in the sense that slowness is hard for most of us, requiring commitment, perseverance, and return after you stray. Because the job is not to know; it’s to become. A sociopath knows what kindness is and how to weaponize it; a saint becomes it.

      Yeah, I'm on the board of a low-income senior housing nonprofit that owns an apartment building, and a volunteer recently documented the history of the organization. It was founded by a community organizing group, and that group saw the need for it and started working to build it. Between the moment when the need was seen and the building was finished, 12 years had passed.

      It often feels that things can and should happen overnight; but so many good things happen because people work for years or decades with a vision of a better future. Some of the older people who saw the need for community housing didn't live to see it open, but they still worked for a future where there was secure housing for seniors with minimal income. It's inspiring and intimidating all together.
