That's fascinating, in 2049 the Corporation claimed to successfully create emotionless Replicant and I've assumed due to some technical breakthrough but it didn't occur to me that it could be psychological conditioning instead. It was unclear to me after watching what exactly allowed K to gain "free will" when it was stated that they were programmed not to. Now the answer seems obvious that they've always been able to and we've just been lied to about it.
