Old 007 movies were never masterpieces and nostalgia plays a huge role in the franchise. I don’t care for the Sean Connery era, I don’t think it stood the test of time. The first 007 I watched was Roger Moore and that era is therefore my favorite. But those were goofy, fun films, not high art. Pierce Brosnan was great too, his movies had a good balance between action and espionage. I never saw the ones with Daniel Craig, but I have seen the trailers, scenes, etc, and I don’t buy that buffed Spartan dude as 007.

And I think Timothy Dalton was underestimated.
