I've always loved this track, and always loved a, well, specific set of lines in this as a hardcore member of the alphabet soup mafia (ie, LGBTQ+) and was curious if I took it the same way as they intended, especially as it was a hiphop track released in 2005, and found this note by the artist on Genius about that line, from four years ago:
I was sick of being subject to homophobic abuse in the hip-hop scene, in my daily life, in the media I consumed… so I tried to flip it and redirect the hostility toward its origin. It was not, rhetorically, a very good idea. I don’t like this line anymore, especially having grown up enough to understand that every listener isn’t inside my head with me. Oof.
Personally, I love that line, and since we're living in the age of 'reclaiming' slurs in the queer community, it's a tight line.
