NC is badly gerrymandered, to the point that our democratic governor won by a landslide in the last 2 elections but we still have a GOP super-majority in the state house/senate.
Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington, etc are the population centers and are overwhelmingly Democrat. But the other 90ish backcountry sparsely-populated counties are very red.
It's tricky because if the cities are more concentrated with Dems, there's a "natural gerrymander." - North Carolina with algorithmic "neutral" maps is 4D-8R (with one tossup) or 2D-6R (with five...

The gerrymander of the house makes it 3D-10R but the effect of the gerrymander isn't that strong.
