Weekly Israel-Hamas war megathread - week of August 5
This thread is posted weekly - please try to post all relevant Israel-Hamas war content in here, such as news, updates, opinion articles, etc. Extremely significant events may warrant a separate topic, but almost all should be posted in here.
Please try to avoid antagonistic arguments and bickering matches. Comment threads that devolve into unproductive arguments may be removed so that the overall topic is able to continue.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Monday that starving two million Gazans "to death" may be the "right and moral" to do until Israeli hostages held in Gaza are released, but that the "world won't let us."
Genociders not even trying hide the fact that they are committing a genocide anymore. I know this horse has been beaten to death, but there is something seriously hideous about seeing a nation-state populated with descendants of an ethnicity that survived the Nazi genocide so openly and proudly commit genocide themselves.
The era of nation-states is rife with so many atrocities and genocides. Nation-states have to be weakened and be subject to international checks, and not like what US-led hegemony did and does. For decades people have been saying that US is enabling and even promoting Israel's war crimes, and they did not care. Even now, its primary motive is to protect its genocider ally rather than stop the genocide. US and its allies have shown again that they don't really care about humanity, but rather they selectively utilize the definition of humanity to push for their interests. This is why so many non-westerners laugh and scoff when westerners start to talk about "humanitarian causes". They know what constitutes as a human is defined by western interests. We need a better international order that will hold nation-states, including the west and their allies, accountable.
On another matter, I don't know when, but Wikipedia seems to have finally called this a genocide. See Gaza genocide entry.
Edit: These threads should be renamed to Gaza genocide threads. Calling it a war is playing into the genociders' hands by utilizing their definitions that downplay the fact that they are committing a genocide.
