Without sarcasm now, it was obvious that they would simply rebrand and move on. And I think you'd be surprised at how easy they have if for the 2020 campaign, @jgb. Being in power helps A LOT with campaigning.

We all know this "news" article wasn't published because it's actually newsworthy in any way. Its real purpose is to promote a political agenda by being posted to various social media sites. I doubt it will change any voter's opinions on who to vote for, but all of these political agenda "news" stories do crowd out actual news stories online, which is unfortunate.

That being said, I don't think this was written as a tool for political purposes. This is a relevant and newsworthy story. It's just that it won't move the needle, because those who disliked CA and believe Facebook conspired with them will continue to do, those who are the targets of their campaigns will ignore the evidence anyway, and those in between those camps will just get to shake their heads and dread talking to most people around them.

        It's a fun world now.

Wait, is this actually a conspiracy? I payed attention to the whole thing and I didn't once see this thrown out there.

I was under the impression that Facebook was careless and reckless (cause $$$) and CA exploited that for their data gathering.

Do people actually believe that CA and Facebook conspired, that CA told Facebook what they wanted to do and Facebook named a price? Is there any evidence to support that?

I am sorry to say that I did see some people pushing that, as a way to shit on Facebook. I don't remember where I read it, thankfully my memory ignores stupidity, but it was a non-technical article (obviously) written by someone that clearly had no clue how any of this works.

And no, I don't think there's any evidence that Facebook was in on it. They clearly have no horse in the races CA was messing with (they'll make their money no matter what).

I definitely agree with you about that, which is another reason why I'd like to see fewer of these political stories being posted to social media news groups regardless of who the target is....

They're not going to change anyone's mind at this point, so why not post stories that are actually newsworthy and interesting to people here like the University of Chicago eliminating the SAT/ACT requirement. If you scroll through ~news right now, half the "news" stories posted in the last few days are politics related in some way.

I for one think the widespread use of data collection and how it's used to sway opinions is a real concern. This company was brought to the light because they're involved in politics, but eliminating everything political from the equation I still think this is an interesting article.

Somehow Facebook's user number and engagement stats went up after the cambridge analytica info came out. That's really surprising, that virtually no one cares their personal info is being harvested en masse and being used to manipulate their viewpoints systematically according to algorithms by spreading fake media that appeals directly to them. It doesn't matter which party is doing it, it doesn't even matter if it's political at all, this is some dystopian scifi shit that I think more people should be paying attention to.

    I found this pretty interesting

CloudCommerce, Inc. (OTCQB: CLWD), a leading provider of data-driven marketing solutions, today announced it has launched Data Propria, Inc., a data and behavioral science company focused on aligning companies with the right audience, with the right message, and at the right time to produce a measurable behavioral change and increase revenue.

No mention of any Ukrainian honeypots so I guess they've gone legit now...

They'll need some bloody good analytics to win that campaign.

I really don't want to see what happens to reddit. I wasn't there in 2016, but I heard things were bad.
