I would agree with you about Taiwan (although occationally the US is the one pushing the line), but I would disagree that every time its the fault of China. Despite this I am still astonished whenever people act surprised about Chinese reactions. They are very open with their stances and what they plan to do when their sovereignty is challenged.
Also when it comes to conflicts with Japan there is equal if not more fault on the side of the Japanese, but that's an entire issue of its own.

Whenever you read about tensions between China and anyone else - in particular Taiwan - it is always 100% caused by China and their reactions.
They've made it completely clear from generating new islands and installing military equipment in the South China sea of their "peaceful" intentions.
