(disclaimer: most of my Turkish friends either have relatives imprisoned/persecuted by Erdogan or are Kurdish so my opinions may be a bit biased).

I'm Turkish and can confirm this is the only reasonable opinion to have on Erdoğan.

I'm a Turkish citizen, AMA about this. My opinion is that the ignorance and idiocy of the masses---increased and toolified by the 1980 coup regime's constitution which is still active and gave for decades all the tools oppressive govts needed into their hands---is to blame. We're still suffering the legacy of that coup d'etat. Erdogan is just a figure in a picture that was painted on the 12th of September by the Junta of Evren and his shitty friends. It might have been someone else, it happened to be him. There were the tools the coup constitution gave and then an economic crisis, best conditions for this kind of thing to happen.
