This is one of the most interesting things in geopolitics in my lifetime. It seems that western governments made a gamble by allowing China into the WTO before China westernized much of anything about their country. Then lost that gamble when investors and western business owners piled money into China. I spoke with a retired exec about this a while ago.

Question: “Why did we lose all of the soldiers fighting China in Korea and Vietnam when now nothing has changed and we are investing billions in the Chinese Communist Party?”

Answer: “Well if I didn’t do it, someone else would.”

What are your thoughts on China in the past, present, and future? Will they ever have freedom of the press, will their economy collapse, will Chinese Democracy ever be a thing? Or will Chinese authoritarianism take over the world? Or am I way off here?
