    so just to clarify how this works since it's a bit confusing if you're not aware and the article doesn't do the best at explaining this, the actual election date for the dutch senate is not specifically until may 27th, but its composition is essentially determined by the municipal elections which happened yesterday on march 20th because the members of the dutch senate are elected by the people elected in these municipal elections. because of yesterday's results, the conservative/right-populist Forum for Democracy is likely to be the largest party in the senate, which would force the current governing coalition to find new partners there. add it to the list of right-populist parties surging in popularity since 2014.

      A somewhat depressing result, FvD's connections with the Alt-right do not bode well. Interesting to see most voters came from other right-wing parties though, so a clear sign that the older voter base is not happy with the current ruling coalition.
