I had totally forgotten about this case, I'm very happy with the outcome. Someone who abuses the court system to extort money from people gets in trouble for fraud and money laundering, how perfect.
TL;DR: law firm uploads their own porn to torrent sites, then sues downloaders. They offer to settle out of court to avoid going to a potentially embarrassing trial, but rather than giving said money to the rights holders they claim to represent, they pocketed it all themselves. Over $6 million in just 3 years (2010-2013).
Edit: They uploaded the videos to Pirate Bay with the username "sharkmp4" (source). If you look that account up, there are some items there that they definitely don't have the rights to...truly law-abiding citizens in this firm.
