With the 2020 elections just around the corner, the Trump administration will do everything in their power to start a war. They have been provoking Iran for a while now and this is exactly what they wanted. The President's approval ratings are likely to go up if America goes to war because it gives a common enemy to the moderates and right wing as they "rally 'round the flag". They can then use it as a wedge for voting by saying anyone against the war is against the soldiers and not a patriot, etc. I expect the GOP to come out in full support of invading Iran once we get a bit closer to election time.

I agree that it would be horribly unpopular among those that already don't support him, but it would increase military spending, give people something to cheer for and Trump has publicly stated he supports his friend MBS, as well as his belief that no matter what he does his fans will still support him (as evidenced by his high GOP approval rating). I hope I'm wrong, but it's been feeling like this administration is looking for any excuse to go to war.
