The majority of Brazilian police is not municipal like in the states, it is a corporation that encompasses the entire state.

Brazilian police do not have a constitutional right to strike, and I happen to agree with this law. Even though I'm somewhat sympathetic to their demands for better work conditions, some essential services simply cannot stop. When our police "strikes" (I prefer to use the term "rebellion"), a lot of people die. Business is looted, people are beaten and mugged and sexual assaults go through the roof.

In previews "strikes", members of the police force disguised themselves to commit crimes all over the city.

In the coming days, most businesses that can afford to do so will close their doors. The same is true for essential public services.

We are grounded in our own houses, scared and defenseless.

That's why I, despite being a left-wing, think police strikes should be treated as rebellions and vigorously repressed by Brazilian Armed Forces. Federal action is always too weak, too late and mostly token.

Anyway, here I am in my locked in my apartment, talking to you guys. I didn't walk my dog today. AMA.

I hope you and your dog make it through this. How long do these strikes usually last? Sounds like a pretty strong bargaining tool, although I agree with you they shouldn't be able to strike. Not...

Not sure about Brazil but here in the US the police are the primary ones to attack protests and strikes.

I'll probably be fine, mostly because I don't have a reason to leave the house and I live in an apartment. A lot of poop will be made inside, however. The rebellions usually last 7 to 14 days, but...

The rebellions usually last 7 to 14 days, but that's enough to provoke lots of damage.

Funny story: a friend of mine bought a top-of-the-line laptop for 25 USD after a strike because the looter thought it was some kind of electronic agenda.

Our police also attack protesters, but who will defend us from the attacks of the police itself? That's why I advocate for the involvement of the Army. I have absolutely no respect for these troublemakers with uniforms, and I think force should be used against them.
