The Boeing 777X program consists of two jets, the 777-8 and the 777-9, which replace the -200ER and -300ER respectively (the latter is an awesome plane to fly in, btw). The model flown here was the 777-9, thus why the captain described it as having similar handling as the -300ER.
The wingspan is only 21 feet narrower than that of the Airbus A380, larger than the Boeing 747-8, and the plane is also longer than the latter too. The nacelles on the attached GE9X engines are wider than the fuselage of the original 737, and at full thrust on takeoff, provide more thrust than a single SpaceX Falcon 9 Merlin 1D engine—while breathing air instead of liquid oxygen.
