The regime that takes over after Putin's pseudo-spiritual militant plutocracy will have to write an entirely new constitution. Judging by all the stuff that's been happening around it, the current document is turning from the state's basic law into a bunch of populist propaganda.

You always can (until they close the border for good, which is unlikely). I, for one, already did. 3 years later I still read the russian news though. Человека из России вывезти можно, а вот...

That's the plan. Once I've gathered enough resources and got my health in decent shape.

Something tells me health can wait until you're on the other side. Don't sacrifice any, but boy do I not trust the Russia health care system to take care of me.

Honestly, I miss Moscow sometimes, it's an awesome place to live. I like to say that Moscow's only issue is that it's located inside Russia.

I think changing the constitution outright is a major step towards a place no one wants to be a part of – more so because of the nature of the changes.

The Annexation of Crimea was appalling. This... feels like a special kind of evil.

Thing is, barely any of the changes are going to affect people in their day-to-day life. Voters are already apathetic, there is some opposition but it's really weak. Regime has trained people to feel helpless so they think they are.

So in the end you either participate in the circus, ignore it and carry on with your life, or you leave and watch it from afar with morbid fascination.

Ironically, I've found that expats have the most amount of opinions on politics of the country they no longer live in. Americans especially. I try never to mention anything political to my colleague from the US, otherwise I risk to be stuck in an half an hour monologue about Trump vs Bernie.

I can't begin to give a shit about this. I don't want to be a part of the bullshit this government is pulling. It feels absolutely appalling to sit by quietly while a whole country spits on an entire category of people who have done nothing wrong.

You know how you feel embarrassed when your mother berates a waiter for messing up the order a little? And you sit there, face buried in your arms, trying to shrink so that no one thinks you're related?

              Yeah.

Exactly what the apathetic say about the Trump admin's depredations because thats exactly how they do it. Gradually until all your rights and freedoms are gone and any hope of renewing them is lost.

I'll probably be able to move out on my own in a few years—god bless the new tech bubble—but thanks anyway, heh.

Considering the pace of the latest changes, I fear "a few years" might be a few years too late.
