A shocking incident but unfortunately not unexpected. Muslims are being bombarded with anti-French sentiment online for weeks now. Even on fairly moderate spaces like /r/islam there is a lot of what to an outsider is obviously and intentionally inflammatory that gets a lot of traction and discussion/outrage. I cannot imagine what more fringe, less open forums are spreading about France's "war on islam".
I am also disappointed in many of the reactions of authoritative Muslim voices. Most of them come out and denounce these attacks but there is often, an either stated or implied "but...". Freedom of speech is great but... there is a line. These attacks are bad but... its because of conditions French Muslims face in French society. But... its a reaction to colonialism. But... it's a reaction to Europe's adventures in the middle east. etc. I'm sure at Khutbahs across the west speakers are leaving the "but..." for another time, i wish those with the outreach that popular youtube scholars have would be more responsible and do the same.

I've seen the hate for Macron on twitter recently with his comments about Islam and it doesn't surprise me this ended like this. What surprised me more was that there were two more attempted terror attacks that I'd not heard about, one against the French consulate in Jeddah and one in the south of france.
