Joking aside, this is why I'm always a little hesitant when people start saying that a shortage of a given material is going to drastically slow development. Any situation where the expected cost of using a given material is expected to climb over the next few decades will inspire research funding to replace it. It's really the shorter term shocks that cause troubles, when supply chains get tested and shown to be insufficient to the task.
