Zootopia is a city where animals of all kinds can come together to live in harmony. Well, unless you're a reptile. Or a fish. And as long as living together means living on opposite sides of massive walls.

Let's talk about Zootopias 1 & 2 — movies that have been praised for progressive messages, but that seem to uphold some pretty regressive ideas about race, policing, and how society should be structured.

Since the original title is clickbait, some extra detail: This is from Skip Intro, who's been doing a long running series of videos examining various shows and movies that feature the police, and seeing how they usually reinforce and justify that system, as well as why those justifications virtually never hold up. This unfortunately tends to remain true even for more liberal stuff like Zootopia or Brooklyn Nine-Nine, since despite trying to do good there's a lot of ignorance around.

If you want to see a show that did remarkably well, here's his episode on The Wire. I also recommend his initial episode in the series since it provides some very helpful context for pro-police attitudes in television in general.

I liked the other not-exactly-related-to-copaganda issues he brought up in the video as well, like redlining, “separate but equal”, and just straight up racism. It was good, thanks for sharing!
