Continued budget uncertainty at NASA is beginning to have serious impacts on the Mars Sample Return mission, one of the agency's largest projects at the moment. In November, Goddard Space Flight Center was directed to halt work on the Capture, Containment and Return System (CCRS). Now JPL is laying off more than 500 employees who were working on the MSR program. Without increased funding it's likely that layoffs at other Centers will follow.
