A bittersweet moment today as Madrid announces Zidane's resignation... I'm a little sad for the last year of his second spell to end trophyless, but few could argue that it's the wrong move. Some of the 'insider information' in this article should probably be taken with a pinch of salt, but I'd wager overall it's fairly accurate. What has served Zidane very well both times as manager has been his political nous - he understands the unforgiving machinations of the club, its president Florentino Pérez, and the ever-circling media. No doubt he saw what happened during his own period as a galáctico, and for the third time he's leaving the club on his own terms. I don't think he's quite the caliber of manager his CV would suggest (which he probably recognizes, given his reluctance to utilize developing players in his first tenure and evolve/rebuild the squad in his second), but he'll forever be our legend. Gracias, Zizou.
