Linehan also ended up being a transphobic asshole. He lives (alone, having alienated his wife and kids) in my city in England now, and is regularly seen carrying unhealthy amounts of red wine out of the local off-license. Father Ted is still amazing though, as is much of his other work.
Once you've finished watching Father Ted, for more excellent Irish sitcom content I would recommend Derry Girls (also from Channel 4), which is set in 1990s Derry. A friend of mine who actually was a teenage girl in 1990s Derry assures me it's pretty much dead on. Sister Michael is one of the great characters of modern sitcoms.
I actually haven't watched the show, but YouTube figured out that I like Irish things. Unfortunately Father Ted isn't legally available in my country, but I'll download it as soon as I have some...
