What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

Cromartie Highschool is my current read. I think this is my fourth read through. If you haven't read it before I'd highly recommend it. It's a gag comedy following "badasses"/yankees (juvenile deliquents in Japan) and other assorted characters.

My first time reading it was a 10 chapter a week read with my friend who introduced me to the series. It was amazing and I looked forward to talking about it with him every week.

There's just something about the short gags in this series that I enjoy more than any other comedy manga I've tried. Especially as a Dad with young kids I can more easily digest a four page self contained chapter than I can anything else.

I totally forgot this existed, thanks for the reminder. I should pick this up again as I remember it being very strange but very funny.

Alright, I finished Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawaii and holy hell, it's something. I have never been more torn on my opinions on a piece of media in my entire life. On one hand, I'm tempted to say it is completely disgusting and not even worth reading. On the other hand, it is a captivating look into the mind of the depraved and love sick. It's one of those stories you want to stop reading, but manages to keep pulling you back in like an abusive ex. I can't say whether or not I recommend it. I would say read the synopsis and if you think you can stomach it, try it. It will change your life, for better or for worse.

In terms of stuff I started this week:

    • Joshikou Dakara Safe: Mediocre yuri. Not too interesting.
    • Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta: I love music and yuri. Naturally this was a must read for me. 10/10, extremely wholesome, and I cannot recommend it enough.
    • WataMote (anime): An endurance test in cringe. The back half isn't actually that bad, but it is still really cringe-y. I can see the appeal, but I didn't really enjoy my time. I kept putting off finishing it because it just wasn't that good.
