Hip hip hooray 🎉, long live Three Cheers for Tilde
It's good to see the continued progress of the app.
Thank you for your wonderful contribution.
Also just want to say thanks. I've switched to the app full time now, like I used to with RIF. Thanks for continuing support and I'll be donating again soon to see the new animation.
Thank you very much! However please don't donate solely for the sake of the animation, haha—it's the same one but I fixed the flickering issue.
Yes it's great!
Three Cheers is now live on the App Store for iOS!
Releasing on the App Store enables in-app purchases for donations, and installation on older devices like iPhone 5s and iPad Air 1st gen. These don't work on TestFlight.
With this milestone, I may be taking a break from Three Cheers development on the order of weeks or months, to recharge and also give some time to other projects. I'll still be on Tildes every day though. Thank you everyone for your support this past year!
How dare you take a break from a passion project you aren't being paid for!!! :P
Great job, and thanks for all the hard work! :)
This is my first ever Tildes comment from an app!
There was a time, back when I left reddit, that the idea of using a web browser as my main interface for a site like this felt completely absurd. Fast forward through several years of using Tildes exclusively through the browser, and now the app feels weird to me! Funny how things change.
Ultimately, I think having the option for either is healthy and increases accessibility for our community significantly. This place gets better with apps like yours. I know it was no small task to make, so thank you for all the time and effort you put into it.
Three cheers for talklittle! ❤️
It's an honor kfwyre! Thank you! I didn't expect my app to be too appealing to long time Tildos yet; it doesn't have all the website's features yet. So thanks for trying the app. Your kind words mean a lot coming from one of the long time and well respected Tildos.
Really enjoying the app. A couple of suggestions / feature requests. I have the android version.
If you have any questions or I can help with developing use cases or providing test inputs, please let me know.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll give consideration to a possible alternative, larger comment reply screen. Others have requested something similar.
The draft saving feature is planned eventually as well.
Always glad to see progress! I've been holding off from necroing an old post to bring this up, so the time is now ripe: have you considered having the home button take you back to the home page when you are on a post already? I get that it is useful to have it go from notifications back to the post you were on, but when I am already on a post, I constantly try to tap that little button to return to the home screen and it never works (of course).
That's a good idea. I know other apps have special functionality when tapping the bottom tabs repeatedly. I can consider adding an option for those types of gestures.
I second this. Also if you are on a post, click the envelope on the bottom bar, then click the home button it already returns to the post. I think it should still do this, only a home click in a post should return to the main home screen.
I'd like to add to first-must-burn's comment. I also have the android version and whenever I edit something higher up in the comment I'm in the middle of writing, almost every keystroke forces me all the way back down to the end of the comment. This makes proofreading and editing the comment before posting kind of annoying to deal with, especially for long comments.
But I absolutely love this app, and I only use tildes through it. So thank you for developing it!
Interesting bug. I can't get it to reproduce on my phone though. Could you please provide some more details? (Feel free to private message me if you prefer.)
Thanks!
Which keyboard are you using?
I'm using a Keys Cafe modified keyboard. I assume that means it's a samsung keyboard. When I'm not using the modified version, I can't get it to replicate the issue. If I have to, I'll just switch keyboards.
What's your make and model, and Android OS version?
I have a Samsung A52 (specifically SM-A526U1/DS) and my "One UI version 6.0" and my phone says it's "Android version 14"
When you say "almost" every keystroke, is there a pattern to getting it to happen consistently?
It's nearly every keystroke, but it only moves after a second of no typing. I noticed that sometimes, if I type slowly (like half a second between keystrokes), it won't happen. It's really confusing. I also can't continuously scroll to stop it from moving. For example, if I'm anticipating it, I can't just keep trying to move the screen up and down to prevent the jump.
Thank you for that detailed info. Sorry to say I still cannot find a way to get the bug to happen. Looking at my code, there is a chance of a similar bug happening, where the cursor itself could move, when pressing the Markdown formatting buttons, on a misbehaving custom ROM; but that doesn't sound like the case here.
Any other users experiencing the scroll bug during commenting? If so, what Android keyboard are you using?
Hi! I have a feature request: if a topic is marked as spoiler, could all replies to that topic be marked as spoiler in the commenters' profiles? (I would really love this to be implemented in the web version too, there's a gitlab ticket for it that's been open for a while)
That is a really good idea, about the spoilers. It should probably be implemented on the web first. If I have free time I may want to look into implementing that for the website (no guarantees), unless someone else is eager to do so and gets to it first.
For posterity: https://gitlab.com/tildes/tildes/-/issues/439
Really impressed with the constant updates! Congratulations on this milestone. I’m looking forward to the official AppStore release.
I only use the app to access Tildes. Love it!
Like in Web there is search functionality for Posts.
I am not able find it in the app. Only search I can is for the groups.
Search functionality is planned for the future. (No ETA though.)
Thank you, as always talklittle.
Another request to auto vote a post that I click through, either the article or comments. Not enabled by default, of course.
I can then manually "unvote" if needed. But my rationale is that if it convinced me to read it or read the comments, it's worthy of my vote.
Cheers!
This is great. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I'm wondering if there is any way to hide the Groups pane on the iPad app. If not, I'd like to humbly suggest it as a setting/option.
That is a good idea about toggling panes on iPad. I'll have to look into it. It's a bit trickier when supporting iOS 12.
(Android) I find myself accidentally hitting the scroll-to-top button when viewing a post's comments. I guess I find the center location and the logic of it appearing after I've scrolled up two times to be unintuitive. I just tend to scroll up and down small amounts while browsing and am not expecting a button to appear there. Maybe it's something I'll get used to though.
Thanks for the feedback. I could consider adding a setting to hide the scroll-to-top button. I'm not sure though, would have to think about it more. There would have to be another way to scroll to the top quickly. (Maybe tapping on the bottom tab repeatedly, like some apps do it.)
I absolutely love the app! I got it when you posted your last update and it's definitely made it easier for me to use Tildes.
I guess it's kinda the same for many people: I feel like opening an app feels better than opening my browser and going to a bookmarked page of Tildes.
I haven't really read your past updates but the only thing missing for me is the search function, right now, you can only search groups, which feels weird.
Thanks a lot for your amazing work, you're awesome!
On iOS, when I share a link, the URL goes into the title box where it should probably go into the link box instead. Very very good job. Love the layout and share functionality otherwise.
Thank you!
Regarding the link sharing bug, does it happen with specific apps? I have mostly tested link sharing from Safari. Does it work properly for you from Safari at least?
Yes, it works in Safari, so it must be a Chrome specific thing.
Okay, I will look into fixing it for Chrome then.
When a comment is collapsed, it shows a small preview of the comment text inline. The website will ignore quote blocks for this preview, but three cheers seems to just show the quote block.
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm aware of the discrepancy, but it's a low priority issue for me. Not sure if I'll change it. Related, one thing the app does better here is that it hides spoiler text in the collapsed comments—the website shows the spoiler text.
Cool yeah. It’s not a big deal at all. Interesting about the spoiler text though! I hadn’t noticed that.
I think my notifications have stopped showing up in the app, (Android, up to date afaik) I've had multiple replies that I'm finding through new posts on a topic not the envelope.
Do your notifications still show up on the website?
Do you still have the "Show notifications badge" setting enabled in the app?
When you go into the envelope in the app, does it show past notifications correctly?
Aha it was the show notifications toggle on the app, but I don't remember flipping it. Fully possible I pocket changed settings somehow though so please ignore me!
Great job on the app and congratulations on the release of the iOS app!
I wonder if you had to do anything special to pass the right to delete account compliance on both stores?
Thanks!
Regarding account deletion, not really. Apple had some questions about accounts, but seemed satisfied when I emphasized it's a third-party site that handles account creation.
Also not sure if this is what you're asking, but you can delete an account by messaging the admin, Deimos.
Thanks for the answer! I don’t want to delete my account, I like to have one!
I was just curious how you handled that compliance because I know that Google requires to provide a link to a webpage where users can request account deletion and without that link it is even possible to submit the app for review. I’m about to publish an app on behalf of a client and we basically just created such a page to satisfy Google as well as an in-app form to pass apple review.
