Yes that's essentially what I'm getting at. There are ways to standardize what's expected but it's not a simple thing to do imo.

There is an important distinction there, though, that having an "exemplary" comment isn't inherently about having novel ideas or expressing something in an extremely eloquent way. It can (and should) be used to highlight that, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I might consider a comment exemplary because it's very well sourced and well phrased but I also might mark one that has a personal anecdote not found elsewhere in the thread.

What I'm getting at is the problem with the "super upvote" concept. You'll often have false positives because people who write eloquently, are well sourced, or provide personal narratives that would normally be self-supporting exemplary comments will get thrown in with opinions simply stated. I don't know how you decouple the two without having a more strict moderation policy (that I don't feel aligns with the platforms intent). If we had two categories instead, such as "exemplary" and "well-composed" or something, it would fix the super upvote issue but would start to clutter the priority, another thing that seems against the platforms ideals.

All that to say, although I do agree it can be frustrating, I don't see a great way to make it significantly better without some associated cost. If the populace decides to use the feature in that way, I can choose to not see it as an inherently bad thing, and allow a good-faith interpretation. I know that sounds very moralistic and uppity but I do feel there's a lot of value in grounding oneself to those kinds of ideas when possible.

This is somewhat of an issue in general aviation as well as commercial, but has slightly different causes. Although there are similar cost pressures, the actual cost to purchase and fly a plane has increased considerably, leading to many pilots being priced out. One thing I'm not sure is considered by the article is the amount of bureaucracy involved in aviation engineering.

It's obviously all in the name of safety, but as standards have evolved the requirements for both making changes and proposing new ideas are substantially higher, creating increased costs. Anecdotally, a friend of mine is an aerospace engineer and also a multi rated pilot, and it's somewhat criminal how little they pay him for the value that he provides. He's explicitly stated he doesn't want to be promoted from his current position as he would have to start signing off on designs and changes, which would apparently be a huge time sink for him.

Yeah this is really my biggest gripe. It's different if it's a blog post or something that has a transcript but I find it quite difficult to interact with videos.

Even so, I think there's a fundamental mismatch between the information that tags can provide and what I would be looking for to actually engage in discussion. Even providing points of nuance or is helpful, anything that provides some form of human connection, either through intellect or anecdote.

This is more of a meta discussion but I think it would be good for posts that are just a link (but especially video as you can always read, but can't always watch) to provide some context or preliminary discussion rather than leaving it open ended.

I'm interested in watching the video but it seems like the point of the forum is to be interactive rather than just presenting something with no other context or discussion points.

I had a KIN K6 hand grinder for about a year and a half and got to the point where it was just too annoying, so I very recently picked up an Option-O LAGOM casa. So far it has been amazing, I've definitely noticed an increase in consistency and shot quality that I didn't expect to happen, but conceptually makes sense.

Unfortunately now my grinder is far more expensive than my espresso machine, so that's the next thing that I'd like to upgrade (maybe for Christmas). A double boiler would be great as my gaggia classic is just a single.

I read through the link and ended up preparing the "original" recipe using espresso, also called an Aerocano. Excellent 10/10. I would agree that it's similar to nitro cold brew but I actually prefer it compared to nitro; I found it much less bitter. Only issue is that it does require a pitcher that is on the larger side and preferably clear glass.
