I'll echo all of the calls for local reddits. Luckily I have a fairly robust local blog to turn to which is sufficient for now.
The one thing that keeps drawing me back are curated links + translations of foreign language content. Most directly, keeping up with the ongoing offensive in Ukraine is much easier on r/Ukrainianconflict or r/Russiaukrainewar2022 than trying to assemble the same from Twitter (which I'd also like to avoid) on my own.
