I remember trying out an Etrian Odyssey demo because having the option to draw your own map and markers was the closest I could find. I still wanna feel immersed in a world and earn the pride of making a high quality map.
I might just be weird, though. I sketched and left notes on a map for Zelda 1 even though I was emulating it and the Internet was full of both exact world maps and full guides, and I enjoy being the designated note-taker or rules-checker in TTRPGs and board games.
I wish I was surprised at how few people have said the Sinnoh games. Diamond was my first, so there's definitely a lot of nostalgia bias, and I still like Soul Silver more than Platinum.
Legends: Arceus was the only game I completed the dex for, but it's somewhat tainted by my imagining how much better it and the series as a whole could've been if the Pokemon games were on the same level of quality as Mario and Zelda. I also know that a lot of my similar-age friends are massive fans of Black/White, but I still need to play through those myself.
