I’m slowly building my collection of 4K disks, but I have to say that some of the releases are extremely frustrating. Classics such as Lawrence of Arabia (the remaster is incredible by the way) are being run as super limited prints or included as part of extremely expensive box sets. I am currently struggling to find several I really want and I refuse to pay sky high eBay prices.

That said, I don’t intend to buy a streaming movie again. It’s almost reassuring that you own the disk and it doesn’t matter what you’re currently subscribing to or what company just went under, taking your library with them.

My god that last sentence was a gut punch. I wish your buddy well and hope things improve for him.

I really like the RPG character comparison. I have taken the mastery route so far, but my career of almost 15 years has lost its spark with few opportunities to be creative. I appreciate the recommendation and I may just go for it. That said, I do relate to the concerns about financial stability. Though I don’t have kids, I’m at a point in life where a radical change could do more harm than good if not navigated carefully. Hopefully I can find a nice balance.

Thanks for the advice, and definitely keep working on your portfolio - it would honestly make a really cool art exhibit.

I’m still an AE novice, but I decided not to go the plug-in route for 3D and am currently learning Blender as well. All YouTube tutorials, all at my own pace. Some of the talent out there is mind blowing, and it’s even better when they explain their approach slowly and clearly. Max Hay is my favorite channel at the moment - lots of well-explained tutorials on creating surreal environments and slick motion graphics.

I’m in a similar boat at the moment. I love graphic and media arts, but my day-to-day career is the furthest thing from that and life just gets in the way. I am contemplating attempting a career change that is more in line with my interests, but at this point in my life, the prospect is a bit scary.
