What I haven't seen mentioned yet is how much un-burnt propellant is injected into the high atmosphere through venting, MECO and second stage startup? Those turbopumps dont turn on and off like a light switch, they need propellant flowing through them before they ignite and the propellant will keep flowing for a bit when they turn off. When you watch the launch you can see clouds being emitted. On a F9 the clouds are either kerosene or oxygen. Is it a tablespoon or 1000 gallons? What does kerosene do to the upper atmosphere? What about methane?
I can't believe the "it's just a drop in a bucket" fallacy is so alive and well as we sit and soak in the over flowing bucket that is modern society.
Why can't we have rationalizations about doing things that improve society just a tiny bit instead of having armies of people justifying being not too evil?
