I don't know how connected these events are in truth, but I've seen some reporting from independent journalists saying that they are. It's pretty easy to find those articles but confirmation bias is certainly important to keep in mind, so I won't link them.
In my somewhat pessimistic opinion, if something like that were available to everyone, most developers (myself included) would lose their jobs. But I think this is OK. It’s like how we no longer have telephone operators or computers. Life goes on and people find new opportunities in different/adjacent fields, because it’s just not practical to pay someone for a job that can be done by a machine [some number] times more efficiently and accurately.
At the current trajectory of how things are progressing, it feels like this will happen within the next few decades at the latest. If our torch goes out, I can foresee a different country like China continuing where we left off, and getting us to that point.
I’d love to see how right or wrong I was in 10 years’ time.
