Could you explain why Face ID sucks in your opinion? For me it‘s feels extremely frictionless, I don‘t even notice the locking/unlocking process of my iPhone it‘s so quick. I also suspect Face ID has made smartphones safer in general, because people are actually using it instead of having a phone that‘s not locked.

For me the best mobile game of all time is Shattered Pixel Dungeon. It‘s a turn-based roguelike dungeon crawler with a seemingly unlimited amount of content and variation. You level up while diving deeper into the sewers of a city. Every 5 levels you have to fight a boss and after that the graphics of the environment change as you progress into an even deeper and different kind of dungeon. If you die, you start again but that‘s the charm of the game. Every run is different. The interface is great, especially because it plays in portrait mode, not landscape. Personally I can‘t be bothered holding my phone sideways. And best of all: the game is actively developed and new features, heroes and sub-classes are constantly being added.

You should tell your wife to have a look at Dread Delusion. Unfortunately I can't tell you how good it is, because it is still on my wish list. I heard it has a similar vibe to Morrowind. Apparently it's exploration heavy and the combat is on the easy side. According to the Steam reviews the game is great.

I wear my Timberland 3-Eye Boat Shoe everywhere. You can get them with a gritty profile sole, which makes them good for hiking in all terrain, or you can get them with a flat sole, which makes them look more formal.

I got the ones with a gritty profile sole. They look less „rugged“ in real life compared to the photo. In fact, even though they are quite outdoorsy, they look perfectly formal. It‘s my most versatile shoe I‘ve ever owned. Plus they are super comfy, even on long hikes. I often use them for farm work during the day and then just brush them off in the evening to go out, sometimes with a bit of a wax buff-up.

I‘m not sure if it‘s only me — and this should be by no means coming across as trolling — but am I the only one who thinks that Mastodon already lost the race when it started, because of its very unappealing name? The name just sounds horrific to my ears, like something that needs to be avoided. Possibly because I‘m not a native English speaker.

Besides that, it also just felt too complicated for non techies to grasp the whole thing. Most people surely just want to download an app and start using it without thinking about servers and such.

Bluesky does both of those things better: it has a very attractive name and is dead simple to sign up, yet it still has all the advantages of a foundation which allows federation.

@PapaNachos Which games do you suggest to play together with kids? Let‘s say from five years old and up. I think co-op games would be great to play together with very young kids and then the older they get sprinkle some competitive ones in as well.

For now I got Cora Quest. I‘m curious to hear about other suggestions, especially games that are also interesting for the adults that are involved in playing.

No, capturing carbon for fuel would actually release that carbon again in the atmosphere when burned. Granted, it‘s still better than leaving it in the atmosphere in the first place and burn „new oil“, but still not as good as storing it underground and never burn it again.

Exactly, and if you forget, you can still buy the paper bag. I really don't see the problem. If people can't even handle this slight inconvenience in order to safe our environment, then we are really doomed. I can only shake my head about this issue – which in reality should be an absolute non-issue.

When I lived in Zurich we had this one Thai take out that would actually "rent" you a metal container the first time you order from them for the equivalent of 10 USD. Every time you order after the first time you would give back the container from last time to the delivery guy. It is such an elegant solution. If all the delivery restaurants would use the same containers, it would be even better. And if you are "done" with that restaurant for good they also buy the container back from you.

It was a very elegant container with two levels stacked on top, so one compartment held the sauce and the other compartment held the rice for example. So versatile, completely leak proof, and with a comfortable handle on top to hold it like a little basket.

In the past couple of years alone the top one percent bagged two thirds of the wealth output of the economy [1].

    1. Am I the only one who is sick to hear that apparently the aging population is the problem, and the only solutions are that we all need to have more kids and our pension age needs to be increased further? Couldn‘t we instead just distribute the wealth properly and all start to work less, have less kids, enjoy ourselves, help the community with voluntary work and have a reasonably wealthy society across the globe or at least across the western world? — a society that is not based on constant economical growth at the cost of the well being of our planet and not the least our mental health. It‘s always the general population who has to safe society while the top of the top is scooping all the profits off while it‘s running well. Bailing out banks is a very similar thing, nearly a metaphor for the whole issue.
    2. Is there a problem in my thinking, i.e. wouldn‘t it just work out for everyone if we would distribute the wealth through increased productivity fairly across the population?

For me it basically always comes back to this, but I‘m not sure if I have an error in my logic here. I don‘t want to provoke a political argument, more like an economical discussion about this matter.
