    macOS also supports a bunch of emacs shortcuts in almost every text field, I find myself reaching for Ctrl-a (go to start of line) and Ctrl-e (end of line) over most of the arrow-equivalents....

    Have you considered fitting a rugged case into a regular laptop instead? e.g. something like an otterbox case should provide some protection against drops
