What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

I just finished watching the first season of Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These.

I tried to watch the original but the pacing was a bit too slow and the animation was a bit too sparse to hold my attention. This iteration is a bit more bombastic so it's easier for me to keep watching. In spite of most of the scenes being fairly static I really love the aesthetics of everything, especially when it comes to the imperial side. The production feels vaguely cheap, but it fits pretty well; the character designs are very detailed so you don't need a lot of Animation to enjoy what you're looking at. And what would be the fun if the 3D rendered space ships looked photorealistic?

To be honest, outside of aesthetics I'm not sure exactly why I like it. Perhaps my brain is just being fooled by the scale of what's supposed to be happening. Or maybe I'm being drawn in by the very simplisticly written but generally charismatic side characters. I am intrigued by the motivations of the "heroes" who are both taking place in the war for entirely subversive reasons, but the nature of their job makes it seem like they're just being puppets and we're waiting for them to throw down their gauntlets.
