I read it years ago when I was in highschool. Forgot about Junji for a while and while in college I got into his stories again. I read some every night before bed and got used to his horror. I showed some good shorts to friends and they were telling me how they were still getting chills even days after.
I was so excited for this adaptation, people were hoping it would be better than the other adaptations with how it was truer to style with the black and white color scheme but I got let down with the constant delays and thought it would never arrive, and here we go, 3+ years later it's coming!
Yes, going by the scenes we've seen so far I also have high hopes of it becoming the first anime that properly adapts the 'Junji Ito atmosphere', if you know what I mean. I'm very excited for it....

My personal only worry is, with the anime being only 4 episodes, that inevitably some of my favorite chapters won't be adapted. The whole manga was excellent but some hit a lot harder or creeped me out more than others. Horror is such a subjective thing that they can't please everyone with it, so I'll just hope for the best. Either way I'll be looking forward to it a lot!
I think they nailed the tone so far. Junji Ito's works has an absurdity that somehow tethers between creepy and comedic at the same time, and they managed to convey that feeling through the animation.

This looks terrific!! So far the other teasers have barely shown any of the animation, and this confirms my thought that they'd be using a "motion comic" type style, but this looks even better than I expected. I already had high hopes, and this seems to be meeting them! It's just a shame that there will only be four episodes, and that there likely won't be any other adaptations like this. I recall someone on the project stating that this one is incredibly intensive and unlikely to be replicated.
A huge part of what makes his manga so impactful is the sheer amount of detail in each panel, but that same detail is also why adapting his work is so hard. It's infeasible to copy every bit of shading on each individual frame, especially if it's a fully colored anime. There's always details lost in any manga to anime adaptation, but it impacts his work the most. I've read countless horror manga, but none by any other mangaka has given me chills just from a full-page of someone grimacing and seething with hatred.
I've been a Junji Ito fan for most of my life at this point, he's the reason I got into reading horror manga. Uzumaki is one of the few horror manga I've gone out of my way to reread, and absolutely one of his masterpieces if not the masterpiece. So I'm glad it's getting the high-quality adaptation it deserves.
