What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)
What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
Terminator Zero on Netflix. I like that it's basically a bog standard anime that just happens to be set in the Terminator universe. It's violent when it needs to be without overdoing it and has a story that's interesting enough to be coherent (though we'll see if it manages to stick the landing).
Just watched the first episode of Uzumaki. And I'm grinning like a loon. It's everything I hoped for from an adaptation of any of Junji Ito's works. I kept grinning throughout the whole episode because I was so excited by how terrific it is!!
One thing that impressed me: instead of adapting the individual stories one at a time, it has a couple stories take place at the same time over the course of several days. It makes sense, since a lot of the stories do span multiple days, but I'm impressed at how natural and seamless it all is. It features two complete chapters, the first half of the second chapter, and sets up the start of another particularly famous story.
That said, poor Shuichi. If you've read the manga, you can guess what the first chapter is. Neither of the main story beats of this episode gave him a break. I'd call it the worst week of his life, but... well, it's just getting started.
