What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)
What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
Not exactly this week but I recently read a lot of Robber x Lover, a finished boy love manhwa. It's quite adorable much of the time, with a lot of comedy and consistent but expressively cartoonish art (great jaw drops!)
The initial "robber" premise becomes irrelevant in a few chapters, which is a good thing because it wasn't very good. The protagonists are 23 and 20 years old rather than children (minus a couple of flashbacks) and I enjoyed that they don't go through many of the stereotypical dynamics and tropes often found in BL manga. They're pretty innocent regardless, but they both feel like fully realized and unique characters in a balanced partnership in which both give and take. The difficulty of coming out in korea is a major theme.
This is not a pornographic or even erotic comic. There are only a couple of extremely vague references to NSFW things.
My slow watch through of Taiyou no Kiba Dagram continues! I've watched through episode 42 so far.
Episode 42 was a recap episode. Honestly threw me for a loop until I went and looked online to confirm it. I skipped through this episode and confirmed it was just splicing together clips from older episodes to catch people up on the plot.
I do hope the next episode starts the plot moving forward, and we see the political repercussions of the Federation attack.
Finished Elfen Lied yesterday. I feel better about it than I did last week. I can see why some people love it as much as they do, but I still didn't really like it. I liked the characters a lot. Lucy especially is interesting, sort of a Paarthurnax or a The Dark Urge—I'm into a story about redeeming the irredeemable. The overall story is interesting, but there was just too much child nudity and torture, often mixed in a really uncomfortable way, for me to give it more than a 4/10.
I throw no shade at anyone who likes this show. I'm in no position to judge. This just wasn't my cup of tea
For the next show, I threw some dice, they landed on Slayers, but I don't feel like devoting two entire months to a show I don't really know anything about. So instead I'm watching Revolutionary Girl Utena. If you've seen Slayers, what did you think? Is it worth watching the entire series?
